Nigeria Bayelsa State: Middle Age Police Man Killed by Militant

The Bayelsa State Police Command speaking through its spokesman, Asinim Butswat told The African Opinion in Yenagoa that a police sergeant was killed by militants.

According to Butswat, police on vehicular patrol, acting on a tip-off had intercepted a car believed to be conveying suspected militants and demanded to search them, when the gunmen opened fire at 8.30pm police officer and a middle-aged man have been shot to death by unknown gunmen in Kolo Town in Ogbia Local Government Council, Bayelsa State.
The African Opinion investigation revealed that the gunmen had attacked three policemen on duty at a check-point killing one, while his other two colleagues ran for safety. Eye-witness who spoke to our reporter said the gunmen left with the service riffle of the policeman who was killed in the attack.
It was further learnt that the rampaging gunmen also invaded the Police Divisional Headquarters, Kolo Town, but it was not clear at the time of this report if the gunmen left with any riffles from the division’s armory. According to reports, Kolo community youths who attempted to apprehend the gunmen, sustained severe matchet cuts.
Security has been beefed up in the area, while the police has spread their dragnet to neighbouring communities in the area.
